ICT Lecture 5: Input and Output Devices

An input device is an equipment of a computer which is used to provide/insert the data and information into the computer.

Input Devices:


Ø  Graphics Tablet

Ø  Video Capture Hardware
Ø  Trackballs
Ø  Barcode reader
Ø  Digital camera
Ø  Gamepad
Ø  Joystick
Ø  Keyboard
Ø  Microphone
Ø  Mouse (pointing device)
Ø  Scanner
Ø  Webcam
Ø  Touchpads
Ø  Pen Input
Ø  Microphone
Ø  OMR (Optical mark recognition)
Ø  OCR (Optical character recognition)

Output Devices:
An output device is equipment which is used to send the data or information from the computer to other devices. Generally, output devices send or display the data by audio, video or image.



Ø  Monitor (LED, LCD, CRT etc)
Ø  Printers (all types)
Ø  Plotters
Ø  Projector
Ø  LCD Projection Panels
Ø  Computer Output Microfilm (COM)
Ø  Speaker(s)
Ø  Head Phone
Ø  Visual Display Unit (VDU)
Ø  Film Recorder



Both Input–Output Devices:
      1.      Modems
      2.      Network cards
      3.      Touch Screen
      4. Headsets (Headset consists of Speakers and Microphone. 
    Speaker act Output Device and Microphone act as Input device)
5. Facsimile (FAX)  (It has scanner to scan the document and also have printer to             Print the  document)
6. Audio Cards / Sound Card
